Did the classical tour. Book tickets in advance online and make sure to get there a little earlier to sign in at the desk. We were a little late but they were nice enough to let us sit in the next tour and catch up to our regular group. The mansion is nice and our tour guide was very informative. She knew a lot of information and was able to answer everyone's questions. The tour does involve standing and walking for a bit so it might not be for young kids. The mansion is pretty and there's a lot to look at so the tour does last around 2.5 hours.
What a wonderful tour! Carol, our tour guide, was extremely knowledgeable and very personable and interesting. We got the Grand Tour and saw everything. The only negative was that it was a long time to stand (and/or walk) without hardly any chance to sit down. I did ok even with my sore back, but anyone with any physical limitations should probably take one of the shorter tours.
This is the best historical site in NY! My classical tour lasted 2 hours. The whole tour is so tight and informative. The site is tastefully built and decorated.
It is so palatial and breathtaking. Stupendous artistry in the landscape, in the architectural design of the house itself, and the overall details of the property. It feels like the Mount Olympus of modern society. It's absolutely beautifully and magnificently constructed, from the rose garden, the oculus, and the terraces. I am envious of the souls who were privileged enough to have had lived here. This is the fairy tale I dream of.
It is springtime. A real retreat. Visit this fine historical tourist attraction. The pictures posted are magnificent, yet to experience this place in person is something extraordinary. I wrote a spectacular review about this place over a year and a 1/2 ago and it has disappeared. I will tell you this, my son and I had a fantastic time. Every inch of this place is breathtaking and rich with history. The bus ride had a fantastic tour guide. It's not that expensive. I suggest taking the tour that goes to the upper bedrooms as well. The grounds are spectacular. The flowers are beautiful. The architecture is incredible. The garage filled with antique cars from the early 1900s is amazing. The views of the Hudson River and the quiet sanctity of this historical mansion is so rich with American history that it takes your mind away from everday thinking. I suggest this tour for everyone. If your goal is to learn a little bit about American culture and wealth, it is certainly worth your while. If you are from a foreign country and want to enrich your life with American history, then I highly recommend it. The best time to go is spring, summer and fall. Enjoy your visit to this historical site. It's worth every penny and every ounce of your time!!! Visit soon!!
