Hostel 123, Sofia Reviews
Friendly and open atmosphere. I met very interesting people from all over the world. I also loved the location. Even though it is not very close to metro it is still very convenient for sightseeing. Finally, I loved the breakfasts. First time I had such a variety of meals.
I really liked this Hostel. It's very cheap and not so far away from Sofia's center. For Bulgarian standards it's good! The staff is pretty cool and young, however one guy was pretty strange 😅 Breakfast is also included and you can always make yourself a coffee for free if you want 👍 Nevertheless, I cannot give them 5 stars, because the connection to public transport (espec. Metro) is not good and it's often very loud since the airplanes are flying directly over the hostel.
Because it is a rather small hostel with a central place to hang out, it makes it very easy to meet other people.
No place is perfect, but Hostel 123 comes pretty close, for me. €5 for a night (with breakfast and unlimited coffee included) is pretty great. I'm not sure how it compares with other places in Sofia, but I found the value proposition to be excellent. It is a 20-minute walk from the centre, but that seems reasonable for the price and isn't a big deal unless it's really, really cold. I found the atmosphere (including the guy who works as receptionist) to be good and fun. There's a small market a few minutes away, as well as McDonald's, bigger supermarkets etc within 20 minutes. If you need a place to stay in Sofia for a few nights and are on a budget, I'd recommend this hostel.
The staff at this hostel are some of the best I have ever met in all my years of travel. They went above and beyond at every encounter with all guests. They were always there to answer questions, provide sightseeing or eating suggestions, help sort transportation, and when all the work was done they spent quality time with the guests and provided great conversation. (And they helped rescue and adopt out a puppy when I was there!). The overall atmosphere at this hostel is fun, welcoming, and relaxing. The rooms are only accessible by stairs, and the walls are quite thin so you hear most sounds, especially when people arrive late at night. It is located on a quiet street a few minutes walk from some of Sofia''s main sights.
