Rochester Falls - Review

Located on the South of the Mauritius island, the Rochester falls offer an ultimate beautiful view with cascading waters and an extraordinary background. These falls are located on the cross point of the villages Souillac and Saint Aubin. What makes these falls an extraordinary one is its lava cliffs. They have been formed over the years of erosion and have rendered a spectacular backdrop of rectangular blocks stuck together against the waterfalls. The water of these falls gushes down from a height of 10 meters through the rocky beds of the Savanne River and forms a thick foam. With such enamouring beauty, these falls constitute a perfect picnic spot so as to keep you engaged for long hours.

  • If you will follow signs, you can find it easily without local guides. It is small waterfall, nice..but not so special or breathtaking. It is nice to see nature around and drive car cross sugarcane fields is funny experience.

  • I loved the place. Even though i had flu on that day I couldn't resist dipping my feet in the cool water. That done, I couldn't then resist taking a dip in the small lake below the waterfall. The water is good, but careful if you are not an habitual swimmer as there is not much upthrust. I was lucky to climb a few rocks and sit below the water fall and be massaged by the falling water. I had a lot of fun with my cousins and family there and would definitely recommend.

  • Breathe taking waterfall hidden away but worth the travel and hike. You need to tightrope accross and a guide will help you cross the actively flowing rocky river. I would highly recommend to travel with a tour guide or a friend who is local as it is a hard place to find. With the windy roads, an off-road car would be recommended.

  • While searching the internet for Mauritius waterfalls we came across this one. You can reach here by car/taxi and the rest of the way you need to walk for 5 min. Wear comfortable shoes as the way down is a bit rocky and there are no stairs. You can easily take a dip in the water if you know swimming. Best time to visit is on sunny days or when there is no rain.

  • Pseudo guide follows you around, won’t leave you alone and demands money for showing you a waterfall that is pretty much just down the road. People had their belongings stolen and cars broken into here. It’s in the middle of the fields with nothing around. Very dodgy experience, would recommend giving this place a miss.
