About Walmart Supercenter, South Jordan

Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. (), doing business as Walmart, is an American multinational retailing corporation that operates as a chain of hypermarkets, discount department stores, and grocery stores. Headquartered in Bentonville, Arkansas, the company was founded by Sam Walton in 1962 and incorporated on October 31, 1969. As of January 31, 2017, Walmart has 11,695 stores and clubs in 28 countries, under a total of 63 banners. The company operates under the name Walmart in the United States and Canada. It operates as Walmart de México y Centroamérica in Mexico and Central America, as Asda in the United Kingdom, as the Seiyu Group in Japan, and as Best Price in India. It has wholly owned operations in Argentina, Chile, Brazil, and Canada. It also owns and operates the Sam's Club retail warehouses. Walmart is the world's largest company by revenue – approximately $480 billion according to the Fortune Global 500 list in 2016 – as well as the largest private employer in the world with 2.3 million employees. It is a family-owned business, as the company is controlled by the Walton family. Sam Walton's heirs own over 50 percent of Walmart through their holding company, Walton Enterprises, and through their individual holdings. Walmart is also one of the world's most valuable companies by market value, and is also the largest grocery retailer in the U.S. In 2016, 62.3 percent of Walmart's US$478.614 billion sales came from its U.S. operations. The company was listed on the New York Stock Exchange in 1972. By 1988, Walmart was the most profitable retailer in the U.S., and by October 1989, it had become the largest in terms of revenue. Geographically limited to the South and lower Midwest up to the mid-1980s, by the early-1990s, the company's presence spanned from coast to coast‍—‌Sam's Club opened in New Jersey in November 1989 and the first California outlet opened in Lancaster in July 1990. A Walmart in York, Pennsylvania opened in October 1990, bringing the main store to the Northeast. Walmart's investments outside North America have seen mixed results: its operations in the United Kingdom, South America, and China are highly successful, whereas ventures in Germany and South Korea have failed.

  • Very clean, I feel at peace when I shop here, like I could spend all day there. They have sliding doors that cover the frozen foods in the buffet type things. I thought that was neat. I've yet to see that at any other store.

  • This store is huge with great variety and low prices, but the checkout lines are usually extremely long, and the workers do not seem to go out of their way to help or to be friendly. I was there tonight and there were probably 30 to 40 people in the self-help checkout line. It looked like a soup line from the Great Depression. There were two or three other lanes open besides that, and they all had giant lines. That is pretty common for this place. I guess that is how they save money, by not having many checkstands open. I was lucky to get in a lane behind a couple who looked like they were buying a whole year's worth of food storage. It was a good 10 minutes just those two getting checked out, and still my lane was probably the fastest. I try to avoid coming here as much as I can. When I need to stock up on shaving cream and other similar stuff, I will come here because of the good prices and buy 8 or 10 cans so I won't need to come back anytime soon.

  • Clean store, mostly friendly employees. Need to do better with stocking items. Often times I have come to find only two items and both out of stock. If they are popular items check your stock more often. These pictured items seem to be always out of stock

  • You're lucky to find one person who knows where three different items are. They are not very well informed here. However the staff is incredibly nice and the store is generally clean.

  • I'm not fond of the store experience as it's a typical Walmart. But, the online grocery ordering and pickup is fantastic! The staff is friendly and they remember you and your pickup habits. The produce is fresher than in the store and they do all the heavy lifting. Can't go wrong with the online ordering!
