Chantry Island Bird Sanctuary is a paradise for those who love bird watching. The entire Chantry Island, spread across 47 acres, is designated as a Federal Migratory bird sanctuary. It was classified as a sanctuary in 1957. The place is home to a variety of bird species such as double-crested cormorant, herring gull, black-crowned night herons, ring-billed gull, great blue herons, seagulls, and great egrets. The island also has a lighthouse. You can visit the bird sanctuary only through the tours offered by Marine Heritage Society between late-May to mid-September. Entry is otherwise prohibited for visitors. Enquire before you plan your visit to the sanctuary for a hassle-free trip.
