Orlando Towers - Review
This landmark is a must-visit in Soweto. During the Apartheid era, the towers were used by a coal-burning plant to produce electricity for the northern suburban region of Johannesburg. On the other hand, Soweto’s people became the sufferers as they were left to inhale the poisonous smoke emit from these towers. These towers worked till 1998 and after that it was left neglected and unused. However in 2007, Skyriders transformed these unused towers into an entertainment area – a vertical adventure facility and a prominent landmark for tourists. Today, these towers hold a special place for adrenaline junkies who wish to experience activities like swinging, bungee jumping, rap jumping, climbing, abseiling and a zip line. The towers also serve as giant billboards where artistic murals depicting the lifestyle in Soweto have been done.
While exploring the city, your eyes cannot ignore the giant painting of ‘Madiba waving his hand’ on the towers.

Orlando Towers, Soweto Reviews
The Orlando Towers can be seen from nearly any point of Soweto's Orlando township. Originally the site of a coal fired power station, the Orlando Towers have become one of the most distinctive landmarks in the neighbourhood of Soweto and the site of the world's first bungee jump between two cooling towers. Construction of the Orlando Power Station began in 1935 and was only completed in 1955, due to delays caused by the Second World War. After 56 years of service, the power station was shut down in 1998 and was transformed into an entertainment and business centre in 2008. They are amusing to photograph as well as to visit and practice the extreme-sports it offers now. If you only want to raise to see the views it costs R80. Other activities vary up to R550 for the bungee jump for example.
Good historic place to visit. These two towers are a main landmark in Soweto. It is the cooling towers of Orlando Power Station, which is a decommissioned coal fired power station in Soweto. The sightseeing and wall climbing is nice experience. Towers are also used for jumping games. Staff are helpful. Good restaurants to try some South African foods.
The staff were amazing and friendly...they made the whole experience simply the best! I felt safe every step (and jump) of the way. I can honestly say that this was the most terrifying, exhilarating, most scary and exciting thing I’ve ever done, all at the same time :) I highly recommend giving it a try, even just once. Better to say “I can’t believe I did that!” Than always wishing that you had! Lots of love from British Columbia, Canada 😊
A great place to get your adrenaline to rush and to see the past from the sky. The sightseeing and wall climbing was amazing for me. Soweto at a glance from the peak of the towers gives a recollection of both history and beauty of one of the world's most famous townships. My attempt at the restaurant meal also created nice taste bud memories. The delicious pap with chakalaka and spinach - a South African staple food is one I'd love to go back for. My only concern with the restaurant is the time it takes to get food on the table. Perhaps, it is advisable to book meals in advance. Absolutely a great experience overall!
Absolutely amazing experience, staff are extremely professional and friendly! We did a Scad Free Fall and it's was AWESOME! Would definitely recommend this before doing a Bungee 😁
