Located in Sustipan which is a small peninsula that closes off the port of Split from the west, the St Stephen’s monastery is a medieval Benedictine structure of St. Stephen built in 1068. According to the legend, the last Croatian king lived in the monastery during the 11th century during the time when he was secluded there. This monastery is so much of significance here that infact the peninsula is named after the monastery “San Stephanus de Pinis.” Although there is very less visible portion of the original structure today, yet you can still see the site bearing the same name.
