This ancient Buddhist monastery was built by Lalitaditya Muktapida in his endeavour to spread the word of Buddhism. Parihaspora means ‘City of Laughter’. It’s only one of the four temples he built here, but it’s thought this was the most impressive, with a soaring copper statue of the Buddha. Displacement and war reduced the monastery to ruins - carved boulders and an ancient stone stairway.
