The Shankarcharya Temple is considered to be one of the most important places to visit in Srinagar. The temple is dedicated to an old saint and one of the most brilliant minds in the history of Indian thought and Philosophy..

Built in the traditional Hindu style of Architecture, this lovely temple is a real sight to be beheld. The arches, steps and the shikhar style have a rustic feel to them and the stone temple may well transport you back in time.

The view of the city from Shankaracharya Hill where the temple is situated is also quite spectacular. History lovers, culture seekers and of course the religious will find this place quite fascinating.

  • Very very old temple. Its very serene and powerful. Loved the spiritual vibes. Great views of Srinagar from here. A climb of around 10-15 mins is there to get here. Cameras and mobiles are not allowed as its in Army premises.

  • Definitely visit the temple - one of the last bastions of Hinduism in Srinagar and Kashmir. The road to the temple starts within Srinagar city, near the Dal Gate area. I was alone and hence wasn't allowed to walk up although riding up solo was OK and thats how I went. You get awesome views of the sprawling and picturesque Srinagar from the top.

  • Ancient Hindu Temple of Lord Shiv.one of best place for Hindu pilgrims visiting Srinagar, Jammu and kashmir. Jagat Guru Shri Shankaracharya started worshipped to Lord Bholenath here. The temple is situated in the top of a mountain. The Historic views of Beautiful city Srinagar can be enjoyed from this temple very closely. Previously this temple was in broken condition and now it is being maintained by CRPF. The daily routine procedures of the temple is now going on smoothly by the Temple authority and CRPF. Now its a very nice tourist place for Hindus.
