About Shankaracharya Temple, Srinagar

The Shankarcharya Temple is considered to be one of the most important places to visit in Srinagar. The temple is dedicated to an old saint and one of the most brilliant minds in the history of Indian thought and Philosophy..

Built in the traditional Hindu style of Architecture, this lovely temple is a real sight to be beheld. The arches, steps and the shikhar style have a rustic feel to them and the stone temple may well transport you back in time.

The view of the city from Shankaracharya Hill where the temple is situated is also quite spectacular. History lovers, culture seekers and of course the religious will find this place quite fascinating.

  • Truly awesome. More than the temple, the approach to the temple is an experience in itself. The divine sensation once you pray there. The whole experience 🙏 Around 400-500 stairs to reach there can be a tough task for elderly people. But once you reach there the view is breathtaking. You can view the lakes going inside the Srinagar city. Just sit down & enjoy the divine feeling

  • We (my wife and me) took 4 breaks while climbing those steps. But finally after reaching the top at the temple the effort was totally worth it. You get a full view of the city. The sad part is you wont be able to capture it as no cameras or cell phones are allowed up there. You have to keep them in your car or with the auto driver. We paid 300 rupees for the auto rickshaw, pick and drop. You have to go through a check post and have to get frisked. The overall experience was awesome

  • Beautiful temple of Lord Shiva that too situated in srinagar. Awesome place to feel the presence of God almighty. There are 243 steps leading up to the temple area and another 8-10 steps from there to the temple hall. Entrance to the hill is guarded by army personnel and cars are not permitted after 17:00 hours, although the temple remains open until 20:00 hours. Thrilling Views of Srinagar are possible from the top of the hill depends upon the weather.

  • Awesome please. Climbing up by walk is very exciting experience. Enjoy the view of whole Srinagar with Dal lake . Om namah shivay..

  • One of the most revered Hindu pilgrimage destinations in Srinagar, the Shankaracharya Temple is located atop a hill known as 'Takht-e-Suleiman'. The ancient temple stands at a height of about 1100 feet above the surface level of the main Srinagar city. A visit to this sacred temple involves a trek to the top of the hills.
