St. Augustine History And Culture:

King Phillip II of Spain instructed Don Pedro Menendez de Aviles, Spain's most skilled admiral, to explore and to colonize the territory. When Menendez arrived off the coast of Florida, it was on the Feast Day of St. Augustine. Eleven days later, he and his 600 soldiers and settlers came ashore at the site of the Timucuan Indian village of Seloy with banners flying and trumpets sounding. He quickly fortified the fledgling village and named it St. Augustine. From Spanish colony to British rule to statehood, St. Augustine's long history and diverse cultural impacts are evident in its streets, buildings and the people who call it home. St. Augustine's historic sites and museums are great places to learn more about the history and culture of this unique city.

Old City Reviews & Ratings

  • Managed to find a t-shirt of a unique color and found a cool imprint as well. I always try to find a store that has unique shirt colors and this place has them. The person that helped us was also extremely nice.

  • My girls and I love coming in here and looking through all the selections! Great atmosphere too.

  • Nice older gentleman running store. Helped me pick a shirt quickly while wife circled the block due to no parking.

  • Very conveniently located gift shop. Has the typical offerings available such as t-shirts, hats, sunglasses, and magnets. Small assortment of canned drinks for sale, although they were a bit pricey. Nice spot to stop in for a few minutes as you tour the city.

  • Absolutely awesome! One of the nicest people you will ever meet. We stopped by for a trinket for our kids and stayed for an hour just talking!
