Hickory Knolls Discovery Center Reviews & Ratings

  • Good for little ones who like to wander on their own! We came on a weekday morning. It was fairly empty, but it’s a big space, which helps a lot having tiny, active humans around you. While there’s not a ton to look at, you can spend an hour or two between the inside and outside. Staff engaged with kiddos, let them pet a turtle and feed the bunny. Outside, there’s a play house and gravel pit with tractors. We’ll be back for sure!

  • My little ones love all of the live animals, the snakes and turtles are the best. They are active and it's great that they take them out for you to pet them. They even have a wooden canoe for your kids to sit in and a fun sandbox outside.

  • I came here to run the Fox Valley Winter Tour 5K and this is a really cool little forest preserve area. While I do enjoy the forest preserve hideaways of the Southwest suburbs (which are apparently the most popular preserves), I really like this one because it's huge and has a ton of cool little things inside of it. It's got a live snake that you can check out, some toys for the kids, and I am pretty sure there are some wildlife education classes and whatnot that you and/or kids can take. The facility is really clean too. Nice bathrooms and not a speck of any mess anywhere in them.

  • My son loved the animals. Definitely recommend for toddlers.

  • Perfect place to bring your littles to learn about nature and animals on a rainy/snowy day.
