Jacob Hamblin was summoned to St. George by Brigham Young in 1845 to become a missionary to the Paiutes. Throughout his life, he was friends with the Native tribes. An epiphany he came across when he crossed ways with an Indian who blocked Jacob’s gun instead of trying to harm him, changed Hamblin’s attitude towards the Native tribes. He soon befriended Native Americans too ass he realised that peace was a more vital reason for his existence and he fought for Native people almost throughout his life- trying to bridge the gap between the growing modern culture and the ethnic tribes. In the 1960’s, Jacob Hamblin moved to St. George where he built his home. This place served as a residence to him and his family for years and even today, you can see the original house with all its authentic furniture, cutlery, art work, handloom press, décor, rugs, lights and personal memorabilia preserved by the LSD church. You can find quilts made by Hamblin’s daughter here placed on a rocking chair along in front of a crib along with a room filled with everyday tools.

The adjoining grounds of the house are beautiful to walk around. The outdoor is also well preserved with fruit trees in the orchard, no heavy traffic and no modern structures seen nearby transporting visitors to the 19th century.
