Widewater State Park Reviews & Ratings
We visited the park today for the first time. I have three young boys who enjoyed walking the trail and playing on the playground. We were the only visitors from what I could tell on this beautiful 85 degree Friday. No school today for Stafford county (Labor Day weekend) .. I thought it would be busy. But maybe because it costs $7 to park.
The place is tranquil and the view of the lake brings such a calm. Trails are accessible and the area is shaded in certain spots in the park. Friendly staff and they are very attentive to their guest's. Furthermore, they are willing to assist you if you have a question. Picnic area is very clean and facilities are within walking distance. Great time visiting!! Noticed kayak and canoeing as part of the recreation.
We attended the Girl Scouts Love State Parks event. It was extremely well organized, the park is beautiful and new. the staff is wonderful. The girl scouts were able to learn and experience a lot through the program and different stations. They learned tree identification, archery, kayaking, fishing and about pollination. Although it was very hot the girls had a great time! The only downside is a $10 fee to enter the park, which is on the high side for a state park. And its pretty far out in Stafford county.
We love this park! So many fun things to do right in our backyard. Kid's Fishing, kayaking with the family, hiking, playground, and plenty of room for picnics. This is truly a hidden gem!
Park is clean and staff has been friendly so far but still a work in progress. The main river side is nice and quiet with more wooded areas, but has the lesser of the "Kayak Launches". Launches on both sides are disappointing and simply poorly engineered; better than nothing but I really hope they get someone who knows what they are doing to help improve them.
