The postal Museeum is a "lagom" experience for people who likes..well mail i guess. But seriously, it could be funnier, but when you get downstairs to the "post office" the place turns into the cooles museeum ever! Its a POST OFFICE FOR KIDS! I have spent noumerous sundays here. working the parcels my kids give to me to be loaded on the mail truck! Sigh!! ..its just one of these "lagom" afternoons. :D
This place is a return to the past from the beginning of the time when a message was sent by walking or by horse. Pony express, trains till the modern ways to transmit a postcard. I saw the beautiful uniforms in the different epochs; it was all so engaging and emotional I immediately thought of the stories of my father, a retired postman, and my grandfather's life, a postman too. One of those who headed the museum told me about the building where once the old post office was. Thanks to him and to all those who work to make this museum truly extraordinary!
It is one of our favorite museums to visit with the kids. they always hace plenty to discover, play with and do. The stamps collection in the top floor is a wonderful thing to see every time, always new details to find. It is a shame the opening hours are so short.
Very nice exhibition, great stamp Shop and reasonable priced Restaurant.
One of the lesser known museums in Stockholm is the Postal museum located in the old town. It is a nice story about the Swedish postal history, uniforms and stamps. It is inexpensive and you can easily spend two hours walking around the museum and there is a nice restaurant as well and a pretty good section for kids. A very nice speciality museum.
