Any decent city will have a park to which the family can retire to in the weekends for some quality time. But it’s just so much nicer when that need is recognised, anticipated and then fulfilled as well as it can be – like at this park. The main draw here is a tiny zoo featuring birds (swans and storks – you’ll find them nesting all over!) and a few other animals, and the kind of children’s playground that makes you wish you were 10 years old again. Trees in beautiful colours, shady pathways, green corridors, grassy lawns, flowery gardens, stone ping pong tables (bring your won rackets) boat rides on the water and really charming buildings – what’s not to like? The building in question is the Pavilion Josephine, a house used by Napoleon’s wife. Another delight of the place is the library that runs on an honour system; if you feel like reading just borrow a book, then return it when you're done. It’s a great place to recharge your batteries, let your kids run down their own, and of course, people watch. Whether you chill, walk, jog, cycle picnic or read – the park is heaven.
