  • Great place to visit a historic fort, view Fort Sumter, and the opening of the Port of Charleston. Fort Moultrie is easily accessible and offers the opportunity to see Fort Sumter from a distance without having to dedicate several hours to take the boat trip out to the fort. Recommend seeing the 20 minute film at the visitors center for historical context and then walking across the street to the fort. At the fort, be sure to walk up to the observation tower for great pictures. Fort Moultrie also provides a great location to view large container ships entering and exiting the Port of Charleston. We combined a visit to Fort Moultrie with a trip to the beach. It was well worth the stop.

  • If you are visiting Charleston, or live in the area Fort Moultrie is a great place to visit. You can park in the grassy area in front of the fort, but you will need to walk across the street to get a ticket, please make sure to buy a ticket. Tickets are affordable, currently $7.00 for adults and free for kids under 16, the price is going up to $10 for adults starting January 2020, according to their website, but it is well worth it, and every little bit helps to ensure that the fort is maintained. I have lived in Charleston SC for several years and Fort Moultrie is one of my favorite places to visit, there is much more to the fort then it might appear at first glance, and the views from the fort are incredibly. If you have the opportunity, I highly recommend visiting. The fort is a great way to learn more about South Carolina history, while enjoying incredible views, and supporting a great National Park. And at the end of the tour there is a path leading to the beach, which is a great way to wrap up the visit.

  • It's quite a drive depending on where you live. But it's worth it. It's a beautiful open area and parking is really good. There's lots of historical sides and direction and it's very easy to get around and see things. You also get access to the Sullivan Island Beach area okay. If you were to go to the beach on the other side of the island there's a lot of people there. As your notice here at this part there's hardly anybody there very private very relaxing. There's lots to see you can go inside the fort is lot of open areas in there it's lots of fun

  • It is a nice place to visit but not a must, this fort was rebuilt at a different location from the original. There are canons from different eras so it is not a true replica of the original fort. Fort Sumter is a much better place to visit.

  • One of my favorite places in the Charleston area. Tucked away so not many people come out there. Mostly locals. Very cool to walk around and get a feel for and imagine what life was like back then. Little extra trivia: a famous author was stationed here. Pretty neat place.
