The Nicholson Museum is Australia's oldest University museum and houses the largest collection of antiquities in the Southern Hemisphere. Founded in 1860, this museum today houses nearly 30,000 artifacts of artistic and archaeological importance from Egypt, Greece, Italy, Cyprus and the Near East. Ranging from the intriguing to the macabre, the Nicholson Museum offers an insight into the minds of the archaeologists, collectors and curators. The special attraction of this museum lies in its LEGO Pompeii- an exhibit that displays the city of Pompeii at the moment of destruction, as it was when rediscovered and as it is today.
