This is a heritage listed theatre in Sydney that has hosted film screenings, live theatre and musical performances ever since 1927 and from 1974 it has been home to the annual Sydney Film Festival. Apart from offering an outstanding performance watching experience, the interiors of this theatre are something to look forward to. Lavishly designed by Sydney architect Henry Eli White who based his work on that of American architect John Eberson in the United States, this theatre incorporates eclectic elements of architecture such as Gothic, Italian and Art deco design. Watching a performance here should definitely be a part of your Sydney itinerary.

  • A historic Sydney theatre, in an eclectic mix of Gothic and the flamboyance of art deco, host to cinema, live performances and international touring companies. Seating is comfortable with sufficient legroom and fixed armchair style seats. No disabled access to the stalls and balcony, limiting such seats to the dress circle. Worth spending some minutes for a pre-show drink in the foyer and admire the heritage elements.

  • I enjoyed this once the doors opened it was wow, sweeping staircase. Mood lighting the way the theatre used to be. Just the right place to watch the royal imperial ballet triple crown.

  • If you are dining at theatre before a show you may be disappointed, no where near enough seating for you to enjoy your meal and hovering near tables waiting is not nice. Nowhere to really stand. Quiche is lovely.

  • My second time there this year (& ever). I was taken there to see The Jason Bonham Led Zeppelin Experience... It was Amazing. The viewing from either upstairs or down are great. The Audio / Acoustics were Awesome (as were they when we saw Robert Plant there in March)... It's a Beautiful old building. Don't be put of by it's age...

  • Amazing architecture. Very classic feel with very morden light and sound experience. Wish they had bit more signage on gate no etc, but they had enough people guiding. May be part of the classic feel they are trying to offer.
