About Fonte Aretusa , Syracuse
Located in the historic centre of Syracuse, the Fonte Aretusa is the place where, according to Greek Mythology, Aretusa returned to the earth after she escaped Arcadia. The fountain dates back to the ancient times when it was the only source of water to what is currently known as Ortigia. Even though there are many stories that shape around the fountain, what truly pulls visitors here is the sheer romantic sight of the sunken pond surrounded by the historic buildings and the gorgeous ducks and fishes that have made this pond their home.
Some people say if you throw a goblet in the Arcadia spring in Greece, it will end up right here!

Fonte Aretusa , Syracuse Reviews - Write a Review
Wonderful place to view the sunset over the sea. Fresh water spring with wild papyrus growing in it. Nearby a small park with huge, unusual African trees with dangling air roots. Birds twitter in the trees at sundown.
Small source of fresh water at a few meter from the see. You can observe gooses and ducks playing between reeds. The place is interesting, because finding a source of freshwater on a small island like Ortiga is surprising, and add some credits to the legend, which say that it is due to a nymph who transformed herself to a fountain escaping a hunter O:-) If you wish to approach the fountain, you need to visit the aquarium nearby. Nice view on Syracuse's inlet.
I haven't seen fountain there, but place was quite nice. You can take a look from top on some water and plants with fishes and ducks, with good view on the sea. Nearby there is quite lot of restaurants so you can sit and relax and enjoy the view.
Great spot anytime of the day or night. At night the water is illuminated so you can see fish and sleeping geese and ducks.
Nice from above but the fountain and around it, that smells and it is dirty. A pity for such touristic spot
