Houtong Cat Village, Taipei Reviews

  • Looking for a day trip from Taipei? Houtong Cat Village would be a good option especially if you like cats as much as I do. It’s a quaint little village with a museum and tour focused on their extinct coal mining industry. But the main attraction are the dozens of cats out and about. The town square as a few restaurants with reasonably priced Taiwanese specialty food. And the residential side of town as cafes which I didn’t have a chance to try. One tip is to don’t leave the train station too late as the train will get packed full of people. I especially on weekends when locals come in with all the tourists.

  • The idea is cute, but also a little icky. I love cats. .. but these cats aren't like your neighbor's friendly cat. They live in the wild, for the most part, and have access to a lot of food. There are cat houses, bowls and places to buy cat food. At least it's free to visit and the view from the bridge over the river is pretty. One of the 3 cats I saw was hissing and batting at a little boy. I saw more dogs than cats and none of them were aggressive. I recommend you pass unless you really really want to go.

  • It’s good enough to visit. But the village is quite small. So, do not hold your breath too much. Cats were cute though

  • Awesome kitties. Bring or buy a cat toy for extra fun. Be well prepared against mosquitoes!

  • Cats not well taken care of. Its a small scenic trip. As much as u like cats pls do not bother them too much.
