Matang Mangrove Forest Reserve, Taiping Reviews
A very soothing place. Suitable to go if you are looking for a place to relax, getting close to nature, getaway from cities. Recomment for short trip late afternoon. Parking fees applies.
A great place to enjoy mother nature and the beauty of Malaysian mangrove swamp. I would consider the place reasonably up kept but there are some missing platforms and broken board walks. If you go after 5 you won’t have to pay for the entrance fees. There are a lot of animals to see here and I manage to spot a mangrove pit viper (Trimeresurus purpureomaculatus) just by the side walk. I do hope they continue to maintain this place for betterment of the Matang Mangrove Heritage.
Enjoying mother nature here... It is just roughly 15km away from Taiping. There are several activities you can do there. The first one is strolling in the mangrove forest reserve, where you can get to see and learn some species of the mangroves. Besides, you can take a river cruise right there... The nature enthusiasts are encouraged to do so... The speed boat driver will explain to you one by one regarding the ecosystem of the mangrove forest and the life of the fishermen in the Kuala Sepetang village. The last one, of course, is watching fireflies... You can get to see some firefly right there. It is a nice experience...
A great place to educate young minds regarding the importance of nature conservation, mangrove trees and wetlands.
Hidden spot for family activity in Taiping. The eagles here are more active and up close compared to the Langkawi eagle sightings. Not sure how many of them are still considered 'wild' if the boatman continues to feed them. Did not manage to go and see the fireflies but may try to next time. Bargaining is required for the local boat fares.
