Takayama Morning Market, Takayama Reviews
Nothing too bad about this morning market, but it is hardly what one might expect. A rather small collection of stalls set up to cater to the tourist trade, and it was heaving with tour groups when we visited on an early May morning. I rather expected a local market selling fruit and veg and other local needs, but obviously I was mistaken.
I forced myself to wake up early (almost 0630 meanwhile I usually wake up like 1000) just to visit the morning market, and it was totally worthy. The atmosphere there was alive. There were many different kind of products with a large proportion of them were handmade. Fruit and food and some weird accessories around, and you walk the street and when you look around, you see a beautiful river combined with a clear blue sky breathing clean air. What could you ask for more out of a morning market?!
We really enjoyed walking through the area and the market. There were a lot of local crafts on display and many fresh foods to sample! Note that although I read it was on until noon, many stalls packed up before 11:30.
A local market where you can buy wares from Takayama citizens. We got an amazing deal on some yukata patterned on traditional Takayama colors. Overall a great trip in an old town with very friendly and helpful people.
Nice- go there before it gets hot in warmer months - in late May we went as about 830am then strolled about 45 mins in the suburb/ hills behind - but by 10am it was too hot for me to enjoy a waffle cup espresso!
