Esplendor Tamarindo, Tamarindo Reviews
The hotel has an amazing view of Tamarindo and a very convenient shuttle to town. The pool bar has nice cocktails but beware of the 13% tax and 10% service fee. For those complaining about the giant grasshoppers GO HOME! You’re in Costa Rica, a country that values nature and animals, those insects were here way before you and this is their land NOT yours! Be mindful of the local ecosystem and learn to live in harmony with them, if you’re afraid of insects or animals then you’re in the wrong place! This is their home not yours
Located above the town, approx. 3 minute drive from the main strip. Hotel is clean and functional in terms of rooms. There was no mini bar which was disappointing, even some water would have been nice. The view from the hotel and pool is very nice but unfortunately you can't see the sunset, which is a real shame. The pool is lovely and wet bar is great. Staff have been amazing, all very friendly and helpful. There's also a free shuttle bus to town and the associated Langosta Beach Club which has great facilities on the beach. Most of our time was spent there. The worst part about staying here are the silly wrist bands they make you wear. Fine for a day, but having to sleep and wash with them on really annoyed me. (they ask you to wear them to show you've put your credit card in their system so you don't have to pay each time, plus for the free transfers I guess, but there must be a better way) The best part about the hotel is the fantastic French run restaurant. The food was brilliant, the head chef amazing as well as friendly and hospitable to his guests. Even if you don't stay at the hotel, it's worth coming here for a meal in the evening.
This is a beautiful hotel located in the hills of Tamarindo. The view is amazing which includes the Pacific Ocean and the forest around the hotel. The rooms are clean and the staff is so friendly and welcoming
We just came back from Costa Rica (12/29/2017). We stayed in this hotel for one night. It was a disappointing experience. The architecture of the building is pretty nice and what one expects for such a hotel type. However, except from the wonderful view to tamarindo bay, the service overall was pretty disappointing. The staff overall appearance resembled more a scruffy hippy surfer rather than Wyndham hotel staff member. No need for a pristine uniform but the clean shirt and trousers could go a long way. We asked for an espresso and the machine was not working. Tables and chairs at the breakfast/restaurant area were not clean. For a $350 per day double room hotel this is unacceptable. The staff did not seem to care about the overall guest experience.
Rooms are very nice. Breakfast was okay. The views are spectacular. It’s a bit out of the way, you need to shuttle to and from the main town center as the walk is very hilly and not easy to do. Biggest complaint is the Langcosta bugs (large grasshoppers about 7 inches in size). They populate the lobby and hallways of the complex. Staff are very nochalant about it despite many guests expressing fear and distaste for them. If you have any fear of bugs especially ones prone to flying at you without warning this is not the hotel for you. I spent significant time in town at other resorts and encountered none of these insects. But up at the hotel it was common to see nearly a dozen while walking through the lobby and to your room in the evenings.
