Busch Gardens - Review

Tampa’s rightly famous for as a theme park destination, and this is one of the two main reasons (the other is Adventure Park). With about 4.5 million visitors every year, this Africa themed park is one of the USA’s and indeed the world’s most visited. There are two ways of travelling the park’s vast 335 acre expanse the Serengeti Railway, which is a replica steam engine, and the Skyride, a cable car. The various themed areas are as follows:

  • Morroco: The park’s main entrance and  and 82kmh rollercoaster.
  • Sesame Street Safari: Land of the dragons and an interactive play area.
  • Stanleyville: Sheikra, and the only Dive Coaster in the USA.
  • Congo: Kumba and Congo River Rapids – the park’s two mist popular rides.
  • Jungala: Stiltwalkers, animal walkers, and water play area.
  • Pantopia: Rides based on the African malls that opened in 1980.
  • Nairobi: Animal care centre, alligators, gorillas and Rhino Rally Ride.
  • Crown Colony Plaza: a rollercoaster and skyride station.
  • Egypt: Beduoin tents and replica of King Tutankhamen's tomb.

And that’s not even including the animal rides!

  • Cheetah Run
  • Serengeti Plain
  • Myombe Reserve
  • Edge of Africa
  • Orangutan Outpost
  • Tiger Trail
  • Kulu Canopy
  • Jambo Junction
  • Walkabout Way
  • Curiousity Caverns
  • Elephants
  • Asian Adventures

The park also hosts several annual events such as the Real Music Series; Bands, BBQ and Brew (concerts and comedy); Viva La Musica (latin music acts); Summer Nights (concerts); Howl-O-Scream for Halloween; Christmas Themes in November and Decemeber.

  • Busch Gardens has been one of my favorite theme parks since I was a child. I have always loved to see the animals such as the elephants or the gorillas exhibits. I have since put on a few pounds since childhood and I am no longer able to enjoy the rides because the theme park is not 6'5, 300lb person compatible. I still enjoy going to the park to take in the scenery and also to see the shows at the park. Currently the show at the Marrakesh theater is called "Turn it up". This show is an ice skating show with some amazing tricks on ice and lasts about a half hour. You won't be disappointed! If your looking for budget friendly options for theme park entertainment, Busch Gardens is the place to go! They have monthly payment plans as low as $9.99 a month for their bronze annual pass (blackout dates apply) and as high as $14 for their best pass that includes Sea World and water parks. I would definitely recommend checking out Busch Gardens!

  • A lovely, lovely, park and one of the cleanest too. I adored everything about it. The lines are quick on the weekdays and the food is so so good. The price is worth it and actually cheaper than other surrounding theme parks. The animals were very very cool and the roller coasters are extremely fun, I personally recommend Falcons Fury. From now on, every time I come to Florida i’m gonna plan on coming here too Busch Gardens. We went and fed the Giraffes and that was quite the experience the tour guide was very knowledgeable about all of the animals and all of the park staff were sweet and very friendly. This would have to be one of my favorite new places here in Tampa. Will definitely recommend!

  • Lines for all the rides are very short on the weekdays. Of course, being a theme park, the prices for everything are very expressive. However, it is one of the top theme parks in America. The rides are award winning and the shows are Broadway quality. I live 5 miles away and have a season pass, which I would recommend to anyone that is local. I enjoy just stopping by the park for an hour or 2 before or after work, just to ride a couple rides. I love it! I gave it only 4 stars do to it's prices for good, etc. In the park itself. It's much more expensive than other parks. I pay $14 a month for the privilege to enjoy the park anytime for an entire year.

  • Great, except.....Beautiful park. Meal plan is excellent. Love the rides. Shows are incredible. Love the planned activities for children! Despite being 7 hours away, myself & my 2 children have driven 2 x this year solely to go to the park for a day each time. We’ve all gotten the meal plan each time & love it. Our favorite ride: Cheetah Hunt! Only disappointing thing was when we went this weekend (Saturday), we went before the park even opened to ensure we could be the first in line for Cheetah Hunt. Unfortunately when we got there, the ride was closed. No problem, we rode a couple other rides & came back. Still closed. We decided to come back in the afternoon. And also decided to upgrade our tickets to season passes on our way out. When we got back, Cheetah Hunt was open. Awesome! Unfortunately, after waiting in line 50 minutes, the ride closed again, right when we were at the very front of the line. Told it should open shortly. Then after awhile, told unsure when it would open. At this point, the park was closing soon, we figured we may as well wait, as we likely didn’t have enough time to ride any other rides. We waited another 1.5 hours only to find out the ride wasn’t going to re-open & we were asked to leave since the park was now closed due to Howl-O-Scream. Bummer. On the way out we tried to upgrade our tickets to season passes. We were told the only option was to stand in a line that was dealing w/ the Howl-O-Scream tickets. After waiting in this line 45 minutes, my son had to use the bathroom, & we had to get out of line. I asked if there was anywhere else we could try to get our tickets upgraded & was told no. So we gave up, as at this point Howl-O-Scream was in full effect & it wasn’t suitable to have my young children there any longer. We really love the park. Just hate we wasted so much of our day waiting in line for a ride we didn’t get to enjoy. And really disappointed that we missed out on the opportunity to upgrade our tickets to season passes.

  • So much fun! Quick lines and great employees. The food is good too, and the whole thing is actually pretty cheap compared to other popular theme parks. Great fun for anyone! You can even get right under a tiger. It's so cool.
