The second non-profit wonderworld that is Tampa’s claim to fun fame, the Aquarium is home to about 20,000 plants and animals, most of which are from around Florida, but quite a few also from the rest of the world.
As an exhibit… it is unusual and brilliant, thanks to its layout. To help visitors relate to the importance of the natural environment, the progression of the attraction follows the journey of a single drop of water from it’s birth at Floridás fresh water springs through beaches, wetlands, a coral reef until it reaches the waters of the Gulf of Mexico. Each of these themed exhibits cover the plants and animal life, and of them, the coral reef is especially magical.
Explore A Shore: A 2 acre Caribbean themed water garden for children to play in.
Dive with the sharks, Shark Swim and Swim with the fishes lets you become part of the exhibit! You need a scuba diving certificate for the first one though.
You may host events at the Aquarium. Contact them to arrange it.

Florida Aquarium Reviews & Ratings
Beautiful aquarium with lots to see and fun for people of all ages. The 4D movie was neat! The staff were all extremely knowledgeable - and I love that they're doing Coral restoration projects! It's great to hear them explain the process to the public and voice the need to help coral reefs around the world. Would love to come back!
Amazing place to take your family to. Definitely not cheap, but it's still worth it. The hands on experience with the jellyfish, manta rays, and anemones is especially memorable. The environment in the aquarium is lively and comfortable. Seems like all the animals are enjoying their habitats. Overall a very nice place to go if you've never seen it.
The aquarium has done a nice job with the local habitat displays. I found it to be very educational and enjoyable. They are not huge but you can expect to spend a few hours or more exploring. There is a splash park for the kids along with a food court and ample seating in or out. All in all we will go back in the future.
One of the best Aquariums I have been to next to Boston. So much to do and see and love the tactile attractions for the kids. I love watching the skates being fed. I also loved the birds and how close they were. The large tanks were awesome to view and going up on the roof where they do the personal scuba diving and looking at the harbor and also at the kids water pad playground was so much fun. Next time I would love to take the boat ride!
Very nice aquarium, one of the best. I like that it is very similar to my home aquarium, the Tennessee Aquarium in Chattanooga. That is definitely not a bad standard to be with. The Florida Aquarium is a must go for any zoo and aquarium lover who is visiting Tampa. I highly recommend visiting and purchasing the extra Penguin Encounter, as the African Penguins do not have a permanent enclosure inside the facility for regular viewing.
