Florida Aquarium - Review

The second non-profit wonderworld that is Tampa’s claim to fun fame, the Aquarium is home to about 20,000 plants and animals, most of which are from around Florida, but quite a few also from the rest of the world.

As an exhibit… it is unusual and brilliant, thanks to its layout. To help visitors relate to the importance of the natural environment, the progression of the attraction follows the journey of a single drop of water from it’s birth at Floridás fresh water springs through beaches, wetlands, a coral reef until it reaches the waters of the Gulf of Mexico. Each of these themed exhibits cover the plants and animal life, and of them, the coral reef is especially magical.

Explore A Shore: A 2 acre Caribbean themed water garden for children to play in.

Dive with the sharks, Shark Swim and Swim with the fishes lets you become part of the exhibit! You need a scuba diving certificate for the first one though.

You may host events at the Aquarium. Contact them to arrange it.

Tampa’s most fun and interactive attraction, the Florida Aquarium is unique in the manner that it aims to bring enjoyment as well as awareness to all the people who visit it. • Amazing place. Stopped with my girlfriend and saw all of the fish and wildlife. This is a great tour through many different ecosystems. Seeing the Roseate Spoonbill up close was awesome. Was able to experience the 4D theater with the predators of the sea, and that was very informative, and I loved the narrative by Morgan Freeman. All in all, it was excellent experience with plenty to see and do. Loved it.

  • Lot of stuff under renovation right now so I have to dock a couple stars. It is quite a beautiful worthwhile trip still. Don't miss the shark tank! Petting the rays was fun. While I was there, they opened and closed it frequently to give the rays a break (every 15 minutes or so), so ask and hang out if it's closed. Very friendly bartender out back with a play area adjacent. Delicious drinks! Perfect to unwind after a long day with the kids. :)

  • The Florida Aquarium is a really beautiful facility, and is very kid friendly! In fact, almost to the point that it’s kind of weird feeling to go as an adult. It feels more like a children’s museum with an aquarium theme. My favorite spot is to watch where they have all the sharks. The other thing about this place is that there’s really only two major exhibits in the whole place. Other than that, it’s got a great splash park, food court, a 4D movie experience (which is actually pretty fun!), and an AMAZING gift shop. One of the best I’ve ever seen. I’m giving it 4 stars because I just didn’t feel like there was enough there for the $30 ticket price as an adult going without kids. It’s stunning, but I’m there for the animals, not the pretty facility or the nice gift shop. I’m there to learn, not spend a mint.

  • This concerns my latest visit to the Florida Aquarium in downtown Tampa in the Channelside District. This Aquarium has certainly improved their exhibits over the past six or seven years and I truly think this is one of the best Aquariums in the entire country. It's certainly a jewel of Tampa joining Zoo Tampa as a premium attraction to view wildlife. I found each exhibit area to be completely captivating and I especially enjoyed seeing the native Florida ecosystem explained in great detail. The facility is well lit and maintained and I found the staff to be helpful and knowledgeable. Don't forget to visit the gift shop. The food prices were a little on the high side however but this venue is well worth a visit.

  • We had a great time and were pleasantly surprised with how many things there were to do (especially for kids to explore), and the unique exhibits! Very clean. Bring a change of clothes for children to play in the (large) splash pad! We made the mistake of ordering food at the outside "restaurant" but regretted it- service was awful, and the food (grouper sandwich) was too. Next time I'd just grab something from the cafeteria. Super cute gift shop. I loved that they really promote recycling there, and use paper straws. I also loved that they do not have captive dolphins, but will instead take you out to see them in the wild ❤️. Would have liked to have seen a much larger enclosure for the lemurs and otter. But we will definitely go back!!!
