Being the nucleus of the necropolis of Tarquinia, the Etruscan Necropolis of Monterozzi spans over 6 kilometers and runs along the Tyrrhenian coast. There have been more than six thousand tombs in the Etruscan hills but due to the agricultural works, now you can find around six hundred tombs surmounted by Etruscan mounds. The painted tombs of the Etruscan aristocrats are unique and have been able to stand the course of time. The tombs are best explored during the daytime as while evening sets in, the rooms containing the tombs turn damp. You can take a guided tour to learn more about Etruscan art and the tombs of the people. Spend a few hours contemplating the past.
