Established to study, preserve and promote modern and contemporary art, the Museu D'Art Modern De Tarragona consist of permanent as well as temporary exhibitions, a library, a documentation center and an archive section for photographs. The Diputació's collections are the highlight of the place and were started in the 1960s when the sisters of the famous sculptor Julio Antonio wanted to showcase all the artwork of their brother. Later the collection of work by Santiago Costa, Martorell i Ollé, Josep Sancho i Piqué, Vaqu, and Salvador were attained with time and today, they form one of the best collections for studying modern and contemporary art from the masters.

The building of the museum consists of three 18th century buildings  including the famous home of the noble family Martí d'Ardenyà called “Casa Martí” that house the collections in parts. The place is also known for offering awards to upcoming artists- a recognition that is as renowned as the place itself. Talking about the number of artists whose work is preserved here, you can find over a hundred names here that have helped shape art and art heritage from not just this part of the globe but around the world!
