The Casa Castellarnau was built in the 15th century and was the residence of one of the most Nobel families of the medieval period in Tarragona. Today, the residence is converted to a museum- maintaining and displaying the original furnishing, decors, art pieces and personal memorabilia belonging to the family members. The opulent lifestyles of the family that lived here are pretty evident from the plush interiors, luxuriously gilded items, crystal chandeliers, oil portraits and the exquisitely made carvings seen on the high ceiling and walls. Everything about this place oozes charm- from the tablecloths, the one-of-a-kind seating set to the sheer aura of the place!
The first floor has a collection of furniture that dates back to the 18th and 19th century. Other highlights of the place include the dreamy and romantic Gothic courtyard and the stunning art on the ceiling of the Ballroom. The paintings are created by Josep Bernat Flaugier-a famous French painter who was renowned in Spain.
The best part about the place is that it is maintained in its original setting that makes you think the owners will show up at any moment! If you love art, history, design and architecture or simply want to experience the rich life in the 15th century, the place promises to be an interesting visit.
