The Kensico Dam was constructed under the dam which formed Kensiico Lake using the stones taken from the nearby Cranberry Lake Park. The craftsmanship and the architecture of the dam is worth appreciating. By visiting, you would actually get the chance to get to the top of the dam and admire the spellbinding views of the water side. The park on this day offers a distinct setting for innumerable activities including concerts, heritage celebrations, fitness classes along with areas for picnicking, walking, in-line skating, nature study and more. There is a Memorial there which is a tribute to the 9/11 victims and consists of the name of the Westchester residents who got killed. Enjoy hiking at Kensico Dam Plaza or a picnic and you are sure to have a good time.

Kensico Dam Plaza County Park Reviews & Ratings

  • It's really fascinating to visit these reservoirs that supply NYC with its tap water. This is reservoir #4 for us (I believe there are more than ten and some are off-limits to the public). We had an enjoyable time, like we did in previous reservoir trips. Parking was free and easy, and there are clean restrooms close to the parking lot. From there, we hiked to the top of the reservoir wall. There's two trails, one on each side of the wall. We took the left-side trail going up. The trees provided some much needed shade during the hike, which was nice, although the terrain is steeper than we expected. I'd say about 150 steps total. We visited at the start of summer so we were sticky and sweaty when we finally reached the top. From there, the reservoir finally came into view and it was scenic and tranquil as expected. We walked to the other side and descended via the right side trail. Our visit lasted about an hour.

  • If you haven't seen "The Rising" at Kensico Dam, you should. It is a very touching memorial to the victims of the 9-11 terror attack. Easy parking, nice park for the kids. Great place all around for a quick rest or even a picnic.

  • Park is always clean. It's good for walking or jogging, walking up to the dam, sitting on the grass or just relaxing. There's a small park for younger kids. Many people bring their dogs. There's a few benches if you want to bring food, there's usually a food truck there.

  • It is a great place to take a nice walk with your lady. We also walked up the steps to the top of the dam, across the top and down the other side. Great view of the dam!

  • Music, food, vendors. Lovely day. Everyone should come next year too. It's always a special day outdoors. So much to do. The dog loved it too!
