An excellent place to see some of the native birds. The five star rating is due to the knowledgeable and entertaining guide who took a group of us through feeding the birds. She was simply fantastic and give us such a lot of information. Highly recommended - check for times that the birds are being fed before going.
There is a guided tour at 9.30 am that feeds the birds and gives lots of interesting information. For the Takahe you get to go inside the enclosure and take photos with out the wire in the way. For the other birds they all come out of hiding for food. Some you can hand feed. The tour asks for donations.
The place is small but I like it there a lot. They take care of all the birds very nicely and you can read about them and their stories as well. Every time I go, I leave some money as a donation for the birds. There is a little artificial owl for it. Please do the same. :) You can reach the place by walking from Te Anau, there is a lovely road for pedestrians and bikes. It is about 15 mins. It is a good place for kids, they can play some games there.
Great little place to see some native birds. Worth going at feeding time to get closer to the birds and some really helpful info from the guide.
Fun place to visit and see a variety of native birds. Loved wandering around, even in the rain.
