De Kleine Schans is a fortification in Terheijden belonging to the Eighty Years' War era. Around 1590, 200 soldiers from the Spanish army were accommodated in this fortification. The ramp, as seen in the area today, was constructed to protect shipping on the Mark river. Though it is now used to host events, the De Kleine Schans played a significant role in shaping up the history of this locality. It now consists of a lookout tower and a play fort for the children as well as a park with several ponds and a catering facility. Though not a mandatory thing to do in Terheijden, you can visit this place if you are an outdoor person.
