In the county seat of Vigo County, Indiana, United States, lies the beautiful and mesmerizing city of Terre Haute.  It lies close to the popular city of Illinois which imparts additional geographical benefit to the place for tourism. It lies along the eastern bank of the Wabash River. The Wabash River has shaped the physical geography of Terre Haute so much so that the name Terre Haute meaning ‘Highland’ was coined by French explorers in the 18th century.

1. Deming Park

Covering an area of 177 acres, Deming Park is the largest municipal park in Terre Haute. It has Oakley Play ground, Golf Course, Public Pool, athletic courts, two lakes and few more setups within its arrangement. The park is very well maintained. It has something to offer for both children and adults. It has got several arrangements for family functions and picnic. There are special displays in the park during special occasions like Christmas and Easter. 

2. Clabber Girl Museum

Are you a food lover? Do you love bakery the most? This is the place to be at then. The Clabber Girl Museum is dedicated to Clabber Girl- the oldest brand of bakery in the United States. It also features history of the city of terra Haute and American bakery- how they have evolved in the past two centuries. It remains closed on Sundays. By appointment you will get to take a tour of the museum and enjoy the culinary demo.

3.   Candles Holocaust Museum

It is a small yet powerful museum in Terra Haute that depicts people about Holocaust. It was founded by the survivor Eva Mozes Kor. It makes you question about your own conscience and shows what a holocaust inflicts on people. There are short sessions which are very informative. You can use technology to talk to Eva and ask her questions. There are also many artifacts displayed here that will move you from within with empathy. This place has a lot for both children and adults and is a great way to not let the future generations forget about such times in history.

4. Terre haute Children’s Museum

You are on a vacation with your children and have had a lot of fun, but your toddler and pre-school kids aren’t yet satisfied? Take them to the Terre Haute children’s museum. Many interactive games and exhibits will excite them and keep them occupied all day. There’s a lot for them to do and learn here rather than just see or read about things. 5. Swope Art Museum: 

For an art connoisseur, this place is heavenly! It has more than two levels where art pieces from various artists are displayed. On the second level, local arts are displayed while the museum also houses paintings that are masterpieces in the world. It is quite informative and there are many artists whose art has been displayed here. The entry is free, yet it’s not crowded and is a very quiet place.

6. Terre haute Brewing Company

For the real beer lovers, brewed beer is above all- bottled beer, draught beer! In hot brewing summer afternoon, nothing is better than mugs of brewed beer. Go to Terre Haute Brewing Company for drinking amazing varieties of brewed beer. It is a quaint place that also serves good food. Stiffy green is a famous beer served at this place and they play music on weekends.

7. Dobbs memorial Park and Nature Centre:

A good picnic spot, Dobbs memorial park is a great place to spend the day at. It is a calm and serene place which is very well maintained. It has a Native American Museum too. There is a small pond in the park with ducks and geese. You can also fish in the pond.  This place has something to offer to everyone. Beautiful nature trail and picnic at a peaceful spot- you can do everything here.

8. Vigo County Historical Society museum

Not everyone likes to visit a museum while on a vacation. But Vigo County museum is a great museum that is expanding further. It is a local history museum. Knowing about local history of the place you are on a vacation at only expands your knowledge. 9. Griffin Bike Park

The Griffin Bike Park is a great place for riders of all age. Even hikers can have fun here. People who love mountain biking will have a blast here, while those who like to take a stroll with their dogs will also have a good share of their time. While biking and hiking you will cross lake and a terrain park that the Bike Park houses.

10. Terre haute Masonic Temple

A classic revival style Masonic temple, it is four stories tall with a basement too. Don’t miss visiting this place in Terre Haute. It houses many Masonic items and old Masonic documents to view. The first floor has a ballroom, parlor, library, card room. The second floor houses rest rooms, lounge area and lodge room. The fourth floor is mostly occupied by storage and an organ loft.

It is one of the most versatile parks in the city. There’s a beach and a lake in the park. One has to pay nominal parking fee here.
