Saint Demetrios was the patron saint of Thessaloniki. This lovely church has been erected in his memory and honor in the lovely Greek city. The old and charming building is definitely worth a see and perhaps one of the prettiest historic sites in the city.
The architecture of the church belongs to the Byzantine era and this shows in its stoic and imposing building and the lovely windows. The interiors are beautiful and look especially striking when they are lit up by light flooding in through the tall windows. There is also a rather spooky underground crypt that can be explored. The church is a lovely representation of the Byzantine era. You should also take a guide to the place to know more about the fascinating stories about its construction.

The churches in Europe are pretty much all beautiful. This one is no different. It has a nice courtyard outside where we sat on a low wall to eat our lunch in the shade. Inside is cool and quiet and big. You're allowed to take pictures! We wandered around looking at all the beautiful decorations. They do have a bathroom but I decided to go down the street to use one at a restaurant that was nicer.
Peace Great orthodox church in heart of city. Wonderful architecture, place with tomb of St Dimitrius. "Must see" place, For sitting and feel spiritual peace.
Beautiful historic building but they take advantage of people's faith way too much. The have money donation spots all over this place. Its sad. And there are beggars all around it and no police at all.
One of the nicer churches in the city. Old iconography and frescos make it worth stopping in.
A devine atmosphere. You can feel the spirit of St. Demetrios, the patron protector of Salonika. May he pray for the redemption of our sinful souls.
