They say that to see the real beating heart of any city, you should visit its markets. If you do believe in this wise adage, a trip to Kapani Market is an absolute must in the city of Thessaloniki. It is a wonderful place in to take in the sights and sounds of the town.

If you are a foodie, you will absolutely enjoy this place. The narrow isles around the place are filled to the brim with the greenest and freshest produce you can find. Meat, fish, vegetables and in general the works; there is nothing you won’t be able to find here. Even if you don’t mean to buy anything, it is an amazing experience to walk the narrow alleyways and observe the vibrant colors, the lovely flavors and the constant haggling. It is an experience not to be missed.

  • Τhis is the area I go every time I visit one of the most beautiful cities in the world. You don't come here just to buy groceries, fruits, fish or meat. You come here to have a bite, or to feel the past. Old Turkish architecture buildings converted to taverna's or small stores. Folk or other musicians playing Balcan music will pass by you or your table. Here is one of the few places where you can sit next to a Bulgarian or French or Russian tourist. Simply I love this are

  • A must-visit for travellers and locals. It really brings a vibe from old decades in the city center. Friendly shop owners that scream out loud their offers. Great for buying meat, fish, seafood and nuts. Various things for the household are sold as well as clothes, shoes, sandals of low cost (and usually awful design :D ). I would suggest also eating in one of the places either in or down from the market. Really worth paying a visit even for just a walk through its small streets

  • Want fresh meat, fish, vegetables, and Greek delicatessen? Well it's the place to go ! Watch the butchers and the master fish mungers go to work. Master piece of the past.
