Museum Of Byzantine Culture - Review

The Museum of Byzantine Culture is a wonderful tribute to the Byzantine Era in Greece’s history. The ancient Greek and the modern Christian come together in the Byzantine tradition which is absolutely fascinating to see.

The museum showcases the period of history with the aid of over 2000 rare and lovely artefacts. These have been painstakingly collectedand form a part of the giant permanent collection. There are several temporary exhibitions in the place as well. The exhibits are certainly lovely to look at but what makes them amazing are the way they depict the history behind it. If you want to discover Greece’s past, this museum is a must visit.

  • One must be real fan of Byzantine culture to be able to enjoy it :-). Huge building, but not much to see. Collection of orthodox icons was great. But this seems to be temporary exhibition. Better go directly to st. Sophia or st. Demetrius.

  • I came here directly after the Archaeological Museum, using the combination ticket you can get, and I guess maybe I was a little tired of museums by then, but this place just didn't really fascinate me or interest me that much. They did a good job of showing the different time periods and eras of Byzantine history, but it still didn't really interest me, and I love history. So I guess if you want to see it, maybe do it by itself, or at least wait a bit before doing another museum back to back.

  • The museum is located in a modern building , which was built for the purpose, trying to mimic the byzantine style (using red bricks). It does not contain many items but it has some well laid out rooms with a few iconic specimens and lots of historical notes.

  • Interesting exhibits, however, is not much of them, really, it took me an hour and I went through all the rooms. However, interesting collections are worth seeing

  • Beautiful pieces in that museum. It is really interesting to understand more the culture about Greece but also details about the local history!
