The Museum of Byzantine Culture is a wonderful tribute to the Byzantine Era in Greece’s history. The ancient Greek and the modern Christian come together in the Byzantine tradition which is absolutely fascinating to see.

The museum showcases the period of history with the aid of over 2000 rare and lovely artefacts. These have been painstakingly collectedand form a part of the giant permanent collection. There are several temporary exhibitions in the place as well. The exhibits are certainly lovely to look at but what makes them amazing are the way they depict the history behind it. If you want to discover Greece’s past, this museum is a must visit.

  • Everything about this museum was great: well-done exhibits, informative descriptions in Greek and English and a comprehensive look at this important historical era. Photos without flash were allowed, so we took a ton of shots in this large museum, which is organized by date ranges, specific topics (an entire section on artistic interpretations of Christ) and themes (weapons, armour, etc.). Even our teenagers, who normally won't look up from their screens, found a lot of this museum to be fascinating. Plus, the museum is very well-air conditioned - a nice break from the summer heat - and we thoroughly enjoyed our lunch at the museum's patio restaurant after our tour. If you want to learn more about the region's history, don't miss this place!!

  • One must be real fan of Byzantine culture to be able to enjoy this museum :-). Huge building, but not much to see. Collection of orthodox icons was great. But this seems to be temporary exhibition. Better go directly to st. Sophia or st. Demetrius.

  • Art and history lovers - This is an unforgettable experience for those lovers of Byzantine History. Its a must! Bonus is that its a 10 minute walk across to the White tower and Gardens. The walk from anywhere in the city is flat with wide well maintained footpaths. Facility has toilet amenities. There are guides within the 11 Museum spaces who speak english. The 3 day pass was just EUR15 per person, and it enables entry into any of the Public museums for three days. A pass for this museum on its own was EUR8.00 Unforgettable relics and monuments with excellent descriptive plaques. Not busy at all during our visit. Have a great tine. Chrisse Feros October 2018
