Royal Textile Academy Of Bhutan - Review
The Royal Textile Academy of Bhutan is housed in a striking building, blending modern architectural appearance with Bhutanese designs seamlessly.Built to preserve and promote weaving, an integral part of Bhutanese culture and tradition, the Academy was established under the patronage of Her Majesty Ashi Sangay Choden Wangchuck. A non-profit institution dedicated to the art of textile, it will take you on a journey with its exhibits - all the royal clothes donated to the Museum by the Royal family, including the current King and Queen’s wedding clothes, jewellery, crowns, kettles of various shapes and sizes, armoury and other fascinating artefacts. The academy indisputably hosts the finest examples of woven, embroidered and appliqued textiles exhibited along with relevant production technique.
There is ongoing footage on TV in the building, demonstrating how to wear the gho and kira, traditional Bhutanese attire, giving incredible insight into the rich diversity of patterns and colours of textiles across the country. Just opposite this building is a place where women are hard at work on their looms. Sponsored by the Queen, this is a program for the empowerment of women from less privileged sections of society for economic upliftment. The training is provided free of cost to the women and the Royal Textile Academy is slated to be Bhutan’s first establishment to educate the Bhutanese youth with an in-depth training and study of the country’s textiles. The academy hosts the finest examples of woven, embroidered and appliqued textiles exhibited along with relevant production technique.

Royal Textile Academy Of Bhutan, Thimphu Reviews
This place is very good and their Museum is very resource full. I think if you are interested in ancient time textile issues and you got time you must are you should must visit this Museum in Bhutan. And there is very colourful building in front of this museum and this is also very interesting
We just visited the museum souvenir shop. There were some unique items for collection though prices were higher compared to market. Museum is built in huge area, building is new & well maintained.
This museum is not for profit and having Royal Queen of Bhutan's permission to showcase Bhutanese artifact. This place is but costly which particularly charges different prices to different countries. For Indian it charges RS 💯 or NU 100 or for SAARC people. You can see major weaving habits of different regions of Bhutan along with different kinds of cotton used to knit fabrics. This place is also famous to purchase Bhutan t-shirts which you can find outside too but quality over here is better✌️☺️
Magnificent architecture... It's almost a Dzong. The ancient blue that's used on the woodwork is something so unique, quite a show of their taste in color... Why not they are the textile museum. From the oldest textile of massive historical values to modern designs woven inhouse by the weavers trained and groom by themselves. It's truly living up to the name- Royal Textile Academy
Nice place with a museum listing the textile history of Bhutan. Well documented and well presented and preserved. Worth a visit when in thimpu.
