About Padmanabhaswamy Temple, Trivandrum

One of the most popular and richest temples in India, the Pandmanabhaswamy Temple is known for its number of devotees and its massive treasure unearthed in 2011. Perhaps the most mysterious of Indian temples, the Padmanabhaswamy temple still has vaults which are unknown to anyone but the royal family of Travancore and its controversies change with every story.

On a spiritual note, the Temple is known for its serene and tranquil atmosphere and its spell-binding architecture- some of which are masterpieces of their own right.

  • Theerthams or Sacred Water from many sources from which Padmatheertham is located on the temple’s east.
  • Mural Paintings- largest one seen behind the sanctum is 18 feet long.

  • This is a very nice temple. I like its architectural brilliance. Despite being the richest temple in the world, it has very limited facilities. The toilets are not adequate and the temple maintenance is very poor. The temple pond is in a shabby condition. Also, the rules for entering the temple need to be tweaked for the convenience of the people. Electronic gadgets are not allowed inside the temple which is fine but this information should be available before the cloak rooms. This avoids people returning from temple entrance for very small things like ear phones etc and again joining the queue. The dhoti system should be revised. The temple administration should consider wearing a shirt along with dhoti. We are living in modern world and we need to change certain rules. This is my personal opinion and sorry if I hurt some.

  • One of the richest Temple in the world. The structure is huge and worth watching. There is a general line and a special line by paying certain amount. The Temple is that of Lord Vishnu and the lord is in a lying posture. The statue is so huge that it has before it three doors and the public has to view from a distance. There is not much lightning near the statue, so one can not see very clearly. However it is a God ‘s place and one feels eternal peace and happiness by visiting the Temple.

  • Wow. The temple is at the heart of the city. It's due to this temple that the city itself gets its significance. Structurally it's beautiful and ancient looking. The entry time is restricted and you have dress code. Overall you get a very divine feeling when you enter the premises itself. Due to the treasure inside, the security provided is intense. Very approachable from the railway station, bus stand and the air port. Don't miss out on visiting this temple if you ever come to Trivandrum.

  • Beautiful structure and great ambiance inside. Courteous staff and maintained good. Few things about the dress code to keep in mind while entering the temple. Men has to wear dhoti and remove the shirt before entering the temple. Women, preferably has to wear sari. If not, has to wear a dhoti tucked around the dress. And believe it or not, the richest temple in the world.
