Opened in the 1930’s, Shri Chitra Art Gallery is more of an art museum. The place has some of the oldest and popular paintings from famous personalities in kerala. For art lovers who love paintings. This place is heaven as over can find wonderful realistic paintings of RajaRaviVerma. It has paintings of other artists as well and each one is very beautiful. One can spend hours there as the ambience is very good. After paintings one can also visit zoo which is few steps away.
Paintings of Raja Ravi Varma, his sisiter, brother, son and other famous painters in his time are showcased here. Also ancient paintings from china, russia, etc. Also are shocased here. But with painting apart from painter name, no other details are labelled there and the representative avilable there are also unaware about those details.
Sree Chitra Art Gallery is an art gallery in Thiruvananthapuram, India, established in 1935. It is located towards the northern side of the Napier Museum. It was inaugurated by Chithira Thirunal Balarama Varma.
Sree Chitra Art Gallary is a unique collection of Raja Ravi Varma paintings and paintings by similar other artists. The ambience of the gallary is more relaxing and nature-friendly (especially in the evenings). The gallary closes at 4 pm, so ensure you are there by 3 pm at least to see all paintings. There are several food joints and parking facility in the same vicinity. There is an admission fee of rs. 30/- and may be separate charges for parking. No use of plastic allowed at the location. No photography allowed inside the gallary.
A must visit for all those who love Art and Sri Chitra Gallery which is located in museum and zoo complex which is hub of many activities. Zoo, museum, children park, rose garden etc all are located in the same campus. Lot of school children used to visit this place. Some of the original paintings are on display here. It is heaven for art lovers. Photography is prohibited. Entrance fee is very low, almost free. Please do visit and appreciate art on display.
