2000 years old, the Sree Janardhan Swamy Temple is a favorite tourist spot for its sheer history. The temple faces the Papanasam beach which adds to its spiritual ambience. The main Idol of the temple is of Vishnu’s avatar- Janardhana Swamy.
Do notice the conical Copper dome and square shaped pavilion with exquisite wooden carvings of the Navgrahas (9 planets).An ancient inscription dating back to 1252 is seen here! The main festival of Arattu in March/ April is a highlight of the temple and is a must-see during the season. The temple is loved for its architecture, design, and layout.

This is one of the ancient temples and has more than 2000 year old. The presiding deity is Lord Maha Vishnu. This is one of the famous pilgrim center, tempts pilgrims with its architectural grandeur. Located very close to Papanasam beach and it upsurges its religious and aesthetic ambiance. Many people come here to perform final rites for their deceased intimates.
Traditional and historical temple.Worships both Lord Vishnu and Shiva.There is well kept pond in this temple.A sacred well is another attraction for devotees,which is believed to be a water stream from Rameshwaram temple.
2000 years old temple. Called as south Gaya. You can see people performing rituals for ancestors. Well maintained.

There is a natural freshwater source for drinking , bath and wash opening into the pond . This spring acts as a constant water source for the pond as well as keeping the water clean by its regular uninterupted water flow. Varkala has a excellent beach called Papanasam beach which is considered very holy and Bali Dharpanam day is very auspcious here.The cliff and beach are a fabulos sight attracting tourists from all over the world.
