About Suriyanar Kovil, Thiruvidaimaruthur
Suryanar Kovil (also called Suryanar Temple) is a Hindu temple dedicated to the deity Hindu Sun-God, located in Suryanar Kovil, a village near the South Indian own of Kumbakonam in Tamil Nadu, India. The presiding deity is Suriyanar, the Sun and his consorts Ushadevi and Pratyusha Devi. The temple also has separate shrines for the other eight planetary deities. The temple is considered one of the nine Navagraha temples in Tamil Nadu. The temple is one of the few historic temples dedicated to Sun god and is also the only temple in Tamil Nadu which has shrines for all the planetary deities. The present masonry structure was built during the reign of Kulottunga Choladeva (AD 1060-1118) in the 11th century with later additions from the Vijayanagar period. Constructed in the Dravidian style of architecture, the temple has a five-tiered rajagopuram, the gateway tower and a granite wall enclosing all the shrines of the temple. It is believed that the planetary deities were cursed by Brahma to dwell in Vellurukku Vanam, the white wild flower jungle and were blessed by Shiva to make it their abode to devotees. The temple has six daily rituals at various times from 5:30 a.m. to 9 p.m., and two yearly festivals on its calendar. The temple is maintained and administered by the Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments Department of the Government of Tamil Nadu.Wikipedia

Suryan is the main deity here. All other navagrahas are present here too. One of the oldest temples. Must visit.
Nice temple, I went during peak summer. I would suggest a evening time. All other Gods from navagraha present within the premises. Don't miss. Ample parking present, but you need to walk at least 200m Sugarcane juice at the right corner, when you enter is a place to visit too.
SRI SIVA SURYAN IS THE MAIN DEITY, along with other eight rest of Navahrahas. ஸ்தலத்தின் பெருமை அனைவரும் அறிந்த ஒன்று. But I want to express my feelings about the maintenance of the temple. For the past15 years or so, they have not any sort of amenities, facilities to the visiting pilgrims / devotees, even though they get a very sizable amount as Donations, offerings apart from selling / collections by sales for various sevas in the name of Archana, Abeshekam etc. They also collect offerings in the name for Annadhanam. Surrounding places not at all maintained properly. Left side mandabam is being built for past so many years, even today it remains in complete in every aspect. Apart from this the Moolasthanam No body is there to control any thing in the temple. Sorry state of offers. All devotees coming from all over other far off places / other state people are being betrayed by these temple authorities. With regrets.கள் விற்றுக் கலப்பணம் சம்பாதிப்பதைவிடக் கற்பூரம் விற்றுக் காற்பணம் சம்பாதிப்பது மேல். 🔍
This is place where all individual temple is avilable for navagragas.. here lord suriyan is urchavar. If you about to visit there for some parigaras, pls buy all needed for archana somewhere outside. Its bit costly near temple. There were few ppl around temple act as guide and ask you to give money (usually 200 to 300) don't trust them, simply pray vinayagar outside and then suriya, sandigeswar and rest follows as you go. Mostly ppl who visit this temple are coming for parigaras. But beyond this it has good architecture and dive place . Humble request : don't pollute the place and scribble on walls, its sin. All these great temples were build by our ancestors and it's our duty to protect and give it to our next generation.
