  • Si on en croit, la thèse de L.Timbal (Contribution à l'étude de la géographie historique de la région limousine,1952), ce château est érigé, comme celui de Rancon, au début du XIe siècle . Alors, il fait parti des terres de l'évêque au nord de Limoges. Le prélat fait de Bessines comme de Rancon, le siège de châtellenies épiscopales. Un siècle après, l'évêque lui enlève ses attribues militaires ce qui va entrainer sa ruine au début du XIIIe sièce (p.104). Selon A., Lecler qui publie une petite rebrique sur le château en 1920 dans son dictionnaire historique et géographique de la Haute-Vienne (p.82), dès le XIIIe siècle la famille noble de Razes le possède. Selon le livre sur Bessines de S.Courdesse-Betout, publié en 1990, ces seigneurs, à la fin du XIVe siècle, rendent hommage-lige à l'évêque de Limoges pour ce château et ses terres . Cette forteresse, avec  celles de Razès et Laurière forme le rideau défensif du domaine episcopal contre le Comte de la Marche. C'est elle qui est aux fondations du bâtiment du XVe siècle lors de sa reconstruction.Il resta au sein des possessions de ces nobles jusqu'à 1703, date a laquelle, il passa, par mariage, dans le domaine des Bethune. Ce marquis de Béthune venda l'édifice en 1734 à l'imprimeur Jean Barbou. Il faudra deux ans de réparation pour que le logis soit habitable. A cette occasion, on fit bâtir le chapellle en 1739. La même année, l'édifice change de propriétaire. A présent, il est la demeure de Dame veuve Dorat et son fils, seigneur de Fougeras. Au XIXe siècle, il fut successivement dans les mains des De Rocart, du sieur De Garsignier et enfin des Sauvanet qui vont, à partir de 1860, vendre toutes la propriété et démolir le bâtiment.
