Hobby Paradise, Tokyo Reviews
Best hobby store in Akihabara! Everything from every type of entertainment you could want all in one place! Models, figures, dolls, etc. You name it, it's here!
This place is CRAZY! It's almost overwhelming. Tons of awesome figures. Don't forget, there are many levels to this place. The items here are placed on consignment. So collectors rent out spaces, essentially. When the figures sell, then the collectors make money. I couldn't find any One Punch man items, but plenty of other One Piece stuff. :D The staff wasn't the most helpful. But maybe that is because there were so many people there.
This is the it place to get anime figurines, memoribilias, mecha kits, and other hobbyist items. The staffs are very friendly and will do their best to accomodate you, even when you speak little to no Japanese like me. B1 and 1st floor are for pre-owned items that are being offered by their owners. Using the provided sheet, here you will need to write down the box number and the item number and give it to the staff. While you pay, the staff will fetch the item for you. 2nd and 3rd floor are for memoribilias and supplies, such as airbrush, clippers, and paint. 4th floor is where you can get your character figurines. From mainstream anime/manga character to volks original, you can get them here. 5th is for mecha/robot kits. There are three displays for the volks original designs. One of them is displaying volks original robots assembled by their customers. Really cool stuff. Off to the other side, you can find great selection from other manufacturers such as bandai (Gundam) and a display on how they would look when they're properly finished. Volks got another store close by too. It's on the 8th floor of Radio Kaikan building. There you can find their dolfie collection. They also have their airplane kits and other model kits such as submarine, tanks, and buildings. If you just want to have a look on how these things are assembled/modified, the staffs would sometime work on them for us to see. Overall, it's a great place to be for us enthusiasts.
For those looking for the Volks Hobby Store (plastic model kits), it is in the 8th floor of the next building with the yellow signage (the one with the escalators in the middle of the building). The Volks Hobby Store has a great selection of plastic model kits. Prices here are usually cheaper than overseas for Japanese brands (Tamiya, Aoshima, Hasegawa, Fujimi, etc) but I wouldn't buy American/European brands here. Check out the nearby Yodobashi Camera in Akihabara before commiting to a purchase since that place has tax-free shopping (5000+ yen perchases exempts you from the Japanese 8% purchase tax) but the selection in Yodobashi is somewhat hit-or-miss. Also price compare with the Yellow Submarine shop 2 floors down before buying (the prices are mostly the same but Yellow Submarine includes tax on the price tag) There is also some impressive scale models on display but watch out for no-photography signs to not get scolded by the staff lol (they are very polite/not very forceful about it though).
Stupid don't buy here, bandai kylo Ren figure 3000¥ while Softmap sells 2400¥ only
