National Museum of Modern Art is known and known well for its collection of modern Japanese art and artefacts. The museum is complete and picturesque in all ways but the highlight of the show is the 20th Century art that includes Western- style Nihonga artists. So visit the place and get an opportunity to see some of the great works of art that the place offers. It was the first National Museum of art in Japan.

National Museum Of Modern Art, Tokyo Reviews
It's free every first Sunday every month. So I went here to try. It has 4 floors & you started from the top to bottom. You'll see from classic into something more progressive / modern. It's very well maintained & coordinated, it has the right atmosphere to enjoy the art. I highly recommend you to try visiting this museum.
Loved some of the individual pieces and, while I’m not a big fan of the current Gordon Matta-Clark exhibit, I applaud them for showing it.
All Japanese or Asian art, which was slightly disappointing. But good insight in the recent history of the region. Can do it in 1-2 hours easily.
Wonderful museum with a very large space for rotating exhibitions. We were impressed on our visit with the depth of artwork from one master produced throughout his lifetime. Great to see his changing style, but not too much to make you aware that the œuvre is by the same artist. Lighting could be improved on some pieces though.
Very good overview of Japanese art in the last century with clear explanations. Tickets are cheap at 500 per adult and the museum is big and not at all crowded.
