Owakudani Hot Spring, Tokyo Reviews

  • Amazing place in October. Amazing weather and beautiful landscape. We were in a hotel nearby. This mountain is just beautiful we had to take a ski lift to get up. Once you are up there are many shops with good food and cool things to buy. Note! You will need cash, they are not having the pay by card option, only cash. We have purchased some black eggs, which apparently are boiled in hot spring water. The fumes are sometimes very harsh and you could experience some balance problems. They will announce when you wil have to protect your self. Toilets are very clean and amazingly equipped. Black eggs were tasting like usual eggs. Usually 3h max for a stay. Staff can't speak English and is not friendly.

  • Definitely worth a stop at this station! The volcanic activity only started in 2015 and the crater and Sulfur is very impressive! The area provides a view of Mount Fuji in the distance and the surrounding mountains. Black eggs are available to purchase (not available anywhere else in japan) and you can also get black ice cream!!

  • The view is fantastic, if you can get there. Recent increases in tectonic activity mean there is a chance they close the lift. The main trails are still closed from the last big incident. On the whole it's a beautiful trip, but the shops and sulfur eggs seem more like a distraction from Fuji rather than adding to it. Most of the gifts at the top could be purchased below.

  • This place is breath-takingly beautiful ! Perfect place to take photos. A must-try here are the black eggs. A regular hard boiled egg that turned black due to the sulfur-rich water that was used to cook it, it is said that consuming a single egg will extend your life by 7 years. However there isn't much activities here to partake in, most of the establishments here are restaurants and souvenir shops. Also, you should be prepared for a "rotten egg" smell, as the volcano was spewing out the sulfur that was causing the smell. But if you managed to get over the smell, you'll have a great time here with a partner or your family.

  • This is a very touristic place with not much in terms of hiking trails (at least in february most trails were closed). You get to spend the whole day jumping from one mean of transportation to another, watching the scenery through a dusty window, rather than walking.
