The city of Tokyo has many shrines and yet another Shinto shrine is the YushimaTenmangu (Bunkyo). The shrine pays respect to Tenjin, the Kami of Learning and sees many disciples worshipping in it. The shrine also sees a lot of tourists and travellers because of its iconic architecture and bright colours. The destination is also famous for its interiors that are no short of marvellous. One interesting thing to see are the wooden tablets called “Ema”.

  • I generally only visit this shrine during the Plum Blossom festival in February. I like this shrine because it's relatively easy to find when using Google Maps. The Shrine is also near the Ueno area which has a nice park and a lot of eating areas. If you get there during the peak of the plum blossom season, you'll be treated to quite a sight. The photos I loaded with this review are from my last visit and as you can tell, I was a bit late in the season. The visit was still fun however, as there are a variety of food and drink stands open. It's so relaxing to enjoy a tea or a beer under these trees.

  • I think this shrine is very closed to the lifes of people around here. Has very low volume of tourists even not more than 5 kilometres is Akihabara. This shrine is quiet and very good for relaxing yourself. In the charm shop of this shrine, I found one of interesting charm here. "Good voice"charm. I think it is very good for people who has always use their voice to work such as singer or master of ceremony.

  • Many temple shrines in Tokyo decorate luxuriously because they want a lot of money. But here it is frugal.

  • Beautiful shrine with a small garden. Like others have mentioned it is a big of a walk to get to.

  • Good to walk around.
