This is a beautiful place with beautiful art. They have tour guides who take you round the place and give you information about everything there. There is a good cafe on the second floor but it doesn't offer much. They also have a bistro which has an extensive dinner menu and a tapas day menu. As a student you get a discount and pay $11 as long as you can provide a student ID. The place is quiet large so be prepared to do a lot of walking.
A wonderful art gallery. The sense of space is a nice antidote to being exposed to so much beautiful art. I love the Thompson gallery and all the Canadian painters in particular. The Small Wonders exhibit was a particular high point last year. We also enjoyed the Alex Coville, Emily Carr, Lawrence Harris and Georgia O'Keeffe exhibits.
We enjoyed coming here and seeing different artists' works. Lots to see and the architecture of the building itself is very unique. It's fun walking up the spiral staircase and enjoying the view. The staff were a little rude to us, treated us brusquely.
Amazing! First off we got a deal because the gentleman let us know that out-of-towners got discounts. Looking through all the exhibits was so fascinating. They have collections of all types - hystoric, photographic, contemporary, Canadian, interactive etc. Their Group of Seven collection and other Canadian artists were amazing. There was a proud sense of nationality throughout the museum while still being able to enjoy pieces from worldwide artists. Sadly, we didn't have enough time to see everything but would definitely go back!
I was there today with a friend. Very disappointing. Rude staff. Too many halls with no exhibits. Art that was a total waste of space. I expected more Canadian Art like the Inuit art. What was there of the Inuit art was the best at the AGO. Also the art from the first Nations was very good, but not enough. I have visited Art Galleries all over the world . This one was the biggest and the most disappointing. Come on Canada. We want to be proud of you. This embarrasses me.
