Elgin And Winter Garden Theatres - Review

Once Upon a Time Peter is used to be stacked up on each other instead of standing side-by-side like normal theaters. For example this Edwardian theater has Elgin Theatre on the ground floor and the Winter Garden Theatre going up for 7 floors above that. Never meant to cater to audiences for vaudeville and short silent movies. Both theaters are incredibly ornamented on the inside with watercolors, plaster cherubs, gold filigree, hanging lanterns and dried beech leaves. The theatre is one of the hosts to the Toronto International Film Festival. Check the Theatre website for upcoming events.

  • Beautiful Theatre! Old world charm. Seats have some leg room! Nice bolsters for the kids. Pleasant ushers. Seating numbering system could be a bit better (like on the upper part of the back of the seat - location on arm lends it to being confusing (which side/seat does it pertain to?). Even the usher came back over to ensure he'd put us in the right seats.

  • Small stage and seating area but the building itself is so beautiful. Seats are a little old but comfy enough for 2.5 hours. The staff are great, accommodating and helpful. I bought tickets for the 130pm showing of Grease and I thought it was for 730pm! So I missed the show but the older gentleman at the box office was very helpful in exchanging my seats that were actually a better view than what I originally paid for. I bought tickets for the right balcony area but I got lucky with orchestra level seats. It was an amazing show and I will be back to watch another performance there in the future.

  • Best experience at any theatre in Toronto. We had tickets that turned out to be much higher up than expected. The wonderful gentleman seating us said “ follow me” & he took us to four unsold seats near the stage. Fabulous seats- so very kind & thoughtful of him. It wasn’t necessary just a wonderful kind gesture on his part! 😃

  • I went to see Grease and it was spectacular. The theater itself is gorgeous with leaves dangling from the ceiling to make you feel like you were in a fairy garden. The stage was beautifully painted and the seating was good. The musical itself was amazing and I would reccomend anyone to go see something here. The cast will no doubt be amazing and the theater is worth watching it in.

  • Loved loved loved this place. The decoration is brilliant, it actually feels like you are out in the garden. All the staff members I came across were extremely nice and helpful. Only been there once to see a musical and I can’t wait to see another one!
