The Den Toronto - Jewelry Workshops, Toronto Reviews
Went for the Goldsmith Experience with my future wife, we were walked through the process of designing and crafting our own rings starting with a consultation and then a few weeks later we were in the shop with Sam actually making our rings. The entire process was a lot of fun, and it makes you appreciate how much work goes into jewelry. They had coffee and snacks set up so that if you needed to take a break from filing, stamping, or polishing your ring you could, and if any of those steps in the process were too difficult or arduous, Sam was eager and willing to step in and take over. Just awaiting the results of our appraisal (which is part of the price of the workshop) to receive our rings, but all in all the experience was a memorable one, and it added a lot of sentiment to our wedding bands before our wedding. So much better than just buying one from a store or online, because it gets to have your own personal touch in it.
I had an absolutely wonderful time! Kristin is an amazing and fun instructor to work with and she helped me every step of the way. Don't be afraid to geek out! I walked away with three gorgeous rings and the curiosity to want to keep coming back. Definitely not something you can get into with a light wallet, but it's SO worth it in terms of a unique and exciting experience, intellectual value, and the economic value of your piece in the end.
My fiancee and I had an amazing time at The Den. Our instructor, Sam, made us feel comfortable and excited throughout the entire process. As an educator myself, I really appreciated the bits of science and information on metal-working that she taught us through the course. Our final products looked beautiful and it was a meaningful experience. They even gave us a little gift bag at the end!
Good luck getting a return call from the Den if you need to cancel or reschedule an event. Four days ago (Sunday, February 11 , 2018) i had to cancel due to a death in the family and I have been told the following: "oh...we are very sorry to hear, some one will call you back by Tuesday. But to let you know we are very busy." Tuesday evening: "oh we are very sorry to hear but we are very busy and you call at very odd hours (to be fair it was 9:30pm)" But as i stressed that I just want to close this out and move on, I was repeatedly reminded of how busy they are (the young lady told me this at least 4x) and that they really need to focus on their classes. I was even told not to worry about it and to call them back in a week or two. My suggestion to anyone dealing with these young artists is to make sure you read the fine print on your agreement with them and that customer service is not their strength.
Loved the experience! Sam and Kristin are so patient at explaining everything. Even if you have never made jewelry before you can walk out with your personal project looking amazing. So happy with the class, definitely going back for more later!
