Vila Vella, a historic landmark and a popular attraction, is the imposing 12th-century fortress. This medieval castle was built to protect the city and is still standing tall with its 7 defense towers. The outside walls are well-preserved whereas inside premises have been converted to bustling cafes and shops. Taking a walk through narrow cobblestone lanes is an experience in itself. You can opt for a guided tour if you are interested in understanding history or simply enjoy picturesque views of the ocean and the tiny beach.
Vila Vella (tossa De Mar) Reviews & Ratings
Great and beautiful place to visits. A good walk up to it. There is a small bus that can take you up. The views of Tossa De Mar are incredible from the top. There is a statute of Ava Gardner near the top as a tribute to her as a movie she starred in was filmed in Tossa De Mar. Lots of history as well. Bring water and good comfy shoes. You can eat at various places there too. Enjoyable and free.
This should be on everyone's list to visit. It is a great place to walk around and there are marvellous views. Day or night it is an interesting place. Visit at both times not to miss anything. Free entrance is also a bonus. The atmosphere is one of Wonder.
Very much fun and beautiful view. It´s very easy to walk up the path, DON´T take the train up there. I´ts just an waste of money. On the top was nice view.
Amazing, so much beauty, so much to explore, we could've easily spent the entire day there and more. The hill is steep in parts but well paved so it's easy to climb. There was a mini truck/train ride there so there are options if you're unable to walk. Highly recommended.
Beautiful! one of our favourite days visiting this castle. A bit of a trek up, but fabulous views. Well worth a visit and it's Free!! Take something to drink with you because you will be hot.
