Canal De Brienne - Review
A single mile of peaceful strolling through green-shaded pathways alongside quietly flowing water – this is a heaven in any city. The was built in 1776 in the centre of Toulouse to create a navigable waterway between the Garrone and the Port de la Daurade in the centre of Toulouse. It takes its name from an 18th century archbishop of Toulouse. Where the canal meets the Canal du Midi there’s a bridge called Pont Jumeaux. Cycle or jog your time away here. You might recognise bits of the canal; it’s been featured in the scenes of many movies. It’s a UNESCO heritage site.

Canal De Brienne, Toulouse Reviews
The section where it connects with the Garonne River is quite picturesque. The twin locks are still operational. When we were on the riverboat tour, we saw them being manually operated - love the engineering details. There is a pleasant canalside walk that leads to a new section of the Universite Toulouse 1 Capitole - Manufacture des Tabacs :: forrmerly a tobacco factory, the adaptive re-use strategy for this building is interesting. .. worth exploring. Should you want to take a break, there are several coffee places on Boulevard Marechal Leclerc, opposite the University entrance
A must see for everyone who visits Toulouse. The Canal de Brienne is a beautiful place for a walk or a run, and you see a lot of locals going about their daily jogging here. If the weather is nice, take the boat trip on the canal, which enables you to get ti know a bit more of the city history. The downfall is that the tour guide is always in french. It will surely be worth it!
